Why the Wizards won the John Wall trade, the sequel

This will be a quick look back at one of my first articles.

When the Wizards traded John Wall for Russell Westbrook I immediately put out a hot take that this trade was a big win for the Wizards.

Looking back, it's even better.

The Wizards managed to turn Wall into Westbrook and then Westbrook into Spencer Dinwiddie, Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and the 22nd overall pick. They then traded the 22nd pick for Aaron Holiday and the 31st pick but who cares about that small transaction!

At midseason the team is bad. But,Kuzma alone is better than Westbrook this season. Meanwhile Caldwell-Pope has been good in stretches, plus he is close with Beal and their wives are friends! Every little bit helps when you are trying to get him to sign that extension.

But since the playoff chances are gone, during this year's trade deadline, the Wizards made more moves.

Dinwiddie never worked out in D.C so they traded him and David Bertans for Kristaps Porzingis and a second-round pick.

Yes, Porzingis does have a huge contract but he has better potential. Just imagine Bradley Beal throwing lobs to 7-3 Porzingis or kicking it to him on the wing for a unblockable three. Also Dinwiddie and Bertans both have huge contracts.

They also traded Harrell for Vernon Carey Jr. and Ish Smith, who just left as a free agent last season. Welcome back Ish! Hope you didn't sell that apartment!

The Wizards managed to get even more assets from the original John Wall trade.

So that blog post has aged perfectly. See you next time
