Why beating the Rams helped and hurt the Jets

You've done it, Jets! You have avoided being the third team in NFL history to go 0-16. All it cost you was the lead to get the first overall pick. Jacksonville now has the best odds for that. This win was good for you but it was also horrible.
How the win was good for the Jets
Let's get one thing out of the way -- players, and coaches don't want to tank. That is, unless you're Gregg Williams and you make that horrible play call with 15 seconds left against the Raiders. So the win was good for the players and coaches who probably won't be on the Jets next season anyway. Nobody wants to go home and hear their neighbors laughing at them for not winning a game all year. Another reason that this win is good is that the Jets avoid becoming the worst team in NFL history. Yes, there are two other teams that went 0-16 but at least they were more competitive. The third reason is now everyone is laughing at the Rams, because for a so-called Super Bowl contender they looked bad against you. The fourth and final reason this win was important is that it helped the Cardinals, Bears, and Vikings playoff hopes, so at least you made those fans happy.
How the win was bad for the Jets
You are no longer owners of the #1 pick. That honor belongs to the Jacksonville Jaguars who are starting Mike Glennon at quarterback. He hasn't played a good game since he was in college. While this win was good for pride, it doesn't help your fans who wanted you to tank. All this win really does is possibly help Adam Gase's job security. Think for a second: Last year the Jets started 3-6 and fans probaly had dreams of Joe Burrow or Chase Young, but the genius of Adam Gase said, "Coaching well when it matters, nah ... let's win when we shouldn't want too instead." They finished the year 7-9 and picked 11th instead of 3rd or 4th. If the Jets win these next 2 games, it will only hurt their draft position. So Jets fans I know you don't want to hear this but it's true.... YOUR SEASON IS A BUTTFUMBLE. You haven't made the playoffs since Mark Sanchez and Rex Ryan led you to the conference championship. Your drafting has been awful and one of your best picks is playing well... on another team. Jamal Adams is the best safety in the league...on another team. Robby Anderson is now a thousand yard receiver... on another team. You are going to destroy the career of Sam Darnold. Your team is so bad that your "super fan" Firemen Ed retired during halftime of a game. What else is there say?
