With the recent news of the Commanders hopefully being sold soon, I thought I would share my thoughts on everything that has happened so far this offseason. This will be part one of a four-part series

Part 1: The sale

When and where is the parade now that Dan Snyder is selling? I'm serious, where's the celebration being held? This man has been the worst owner in all of sports. It's sad, because what gets lost in all of his worst qualities is the fact that Snyder wants to win. He is willing to do whatever it takes to win no matter the consequences. The only problem is that he is really bad at winning but really good at the consequences.

Of course, for as bad of an owner as he was, his “punishment” will be receiving somewhere around $6.05 billion when he sells the team. For reference he bought the team for $800 million. Who's the real winner?

While I wanted Jeff Bezos to buy the team, it wasn’t meant to be (now they can’t be called the Washington Primes). Instead it looks like the Josh Harris group will most likely get to buy the team. In this group we have Mitchell Harris, Magic Johnson, limited partners like Alejandro Santo Domingo and Eric Schmidt, and finally Joe Gibbs as an advisor. Josh Harris currently owns the New Jersey Devils and the Philadelphia 76ers (so for Washington fans it's time to “Trust The Process”). With those teams currently in the second round of the playoffs of their leagues, I’m incredibly excited and hopeful for the future of the Commanders.

The only problem with Josh Harris’s bid is that the NFL may have to ignore some rules in order to approve it. In the current bid, Harris reportedly would need to take on more debt than permitted by the NFL. If the NFL were to bend the rule it would allow for more debt to be used to buy out Snyder's equity in the team. Adding to that is that Harris would reportedly be getting the debt money by borrowing against his ownership stake in the Devils and 76ers. Commanders fans have to hope he’ll have enough money left over to buy some better players!

That's it for ownership. See you next time where I talk about free agency
