With the 15th pick in the first round of the 2019 draft, the Washington Football Team selected Dwayne Haskins, a quarterback from Ohio State. Haskins was projected to be picked earlier in the first round, but the New York Giants took Daniel Jones, a quarterback from Duke. Since being picked, Haskins hasn't exactly shown that he is a franchise quarterback. This Sunday against the Seahawks could be his last chance to prove that he can lead this team to victory.
Over the past two seasons, Haskins hasn't really proved himself. He has thrown for 2,335 yards with 11 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 77.5 quarterback rating during that time span. Safe to say those numbers aren't the greatest. During his rookie season, he didn't start until week 10. He wasn't terrible that season but he did show he wasn't ready to be the starter.
At the start of the 2020 season, Haskins lead the team to a comeback victory over the Eagles. But things would get ugly from there. At the end of a week 4 loss, Haskins "gloated" about his stats in the locker room, causing lots of tension. The next week he was benched for Kyle Allen. He then was relegated to the third string quarterback
Then when Allen got hurt vs the Giants, Alex Smith and his miracle comeback took the reins. But In week 14 vs the 49ers, Alex Smith left the game in the first half with a leg injury. While Haskins led the team to victory, the defense did most of the work.
If Haskins does poorly against the Seahawks, then the Football Team will most likely move on from him and trade him during the offseason. If Haskins does ok, then there is a chance that the team sticks with him for one more year. The good thing for Haskins is that the Football Team has no chance at Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields.
Haskins needs to show everyone that he can be a franchise QB or else he will become a backup or be out of the league. So Haskins, the ball is in your corner. It is up to you to prove to everyone that you can be a franchise QB.
