Conference Championship Game Picks

Last week I went 3-1 in my picks. This week, let’s hope for the two-game sweep!

Chiefs vs Ravens: Can the Swifties really beat the big birds?

When will I ever learn to not pick against Patrick  Mahomes and Andy Reid in the playoffs? While the Chiefs went into Buffalo and gave that city more heartbreak, the Ravens decided to give their fans a panic attack in the first half before shaking off the rust and destroying the Texans in the second half.

The Ravens are the most complete team in football with a dominate defense destroying offenses left and right and an offense that is the most balanced it’s ever been with Lamar Jackson.  On the other hand, the Ravens love to play around with their food instead of putting teams away, which can cause them trouble as they are their own worst enemy.

The Chiefs, on the other hand, normally have a great defense and an inconsistent offense. Last week against the Bills the offense looked the best it has all season, so it may be due for a regression this week. Still the Chiefs will always be a team to fear with Mahomes and Reid at the helm.

I just think the Ravens defense will be too much for the Chiefs offense to handle and the Ravens will punch their ticket to the Super Bowl. You can count on this coming true because I’ve never been wrong picking against Patrick Mahomes yet. Or maybe I just have the short-term memory of a goldfish.

Lions vs 49ers: Will the 49ers break Eminem’s heart?

The 49ers made everyone nervous last week in their game against the Packers. But they luckily paid Packers kicker Anders Carlson to miss the field goal, or maybe they paid the Packers GM not to upgrade at that position after he’d struggled all year. The Lions, on the other hand, won a tight contest against the Buccaneers thanks to their defense stepping up when it needed to.

The 49ers are the second most complete team in football. Their offense has weapons like George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Christian McCaffrey and Brock Purdy leading the way. The defense also is deadly with guys like Nick Bosa, Fred Warner and Chase “ I haven’t done anything since I got here” Young.  Their one weakness is trying to come back in games. Before last week, the 49ers were 0-30 when trailing by 7+ points in the 4th quarter under Kyle Shanahan. We will see what happens this week against the Lions but if they are down like that, don’t expect them to come back!

The Lions are an explosive team on offense with a ton of weapons for Jared Goff to choose from. Guys like David Montgomery, Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta and Jameson Williams are threats to go the distance whenever they get the ball. Their one weakness however is their pass defense. While the defense has stars like Adian Hutchenson and Brian Branch, their pass defense has been average at best. Still I wouldn’t want to bet against Dan Campbell because he would bite all the kneecaps possible to win the Super Bowl, and I wouldn’t want to bet against the Lions because I can’t wait to see what huge Detroit sports fan Eminem can come up with for a hype video for the Super Bowl.

After last week, I can’t trust the 49ers to win this game. I think the Lions pull this one out at the end and end the theory that the Super Bowl teams are the teams with their colors in the Super Bowl logo.

Lions 31, 49ers 28
